Accessibility Statement

We want everyone pursuing a captain's license to be able to use this site, including people who rely on assistive technology. We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA and check it as part of shipping.

What is in place today

• Full keyboard operability, with a skip-to-content link and a visible focus outline on every interactive element.
• Color contrast that meets AA in both the light and the dark theme, which follows your device preference.
• Reduced-motion support: if your system requests reduced motion, non-essential animation is removed.
• Data tables (the processing tracker and the state charter map) stack into readable blocks on narrow screens.
• Semantic HTML structure, labeled form controls in the sea-time calculator, and text alternatives for meaningful graphics.

How we check it

Before this site goes live and as we ship changes, we run automated and manual accessibility checks against the WCAG 2.2 AA rules, and a serious or critical issue blocks the release. Automated testing does not catch everything, so we also do manual keyboard checks. Accessibility is an ongoing effort: guidelines and our content evolve, and we may not have caught every issue. If you find a barrier, we want to fix it.
